Will it be safe to add in my tank? I would assume the worst and rinse the rock thoroughly before you put it in your tank. It won't be "live" anymore at that point but it won't take much raw shrimp to bring it back.
But worst case scenario would thus still be a good deal?

Hard to say what the local market is like in Las Vegas. Check your local Vegas RC forum. You can at least see it before buying it, unlike mail order. You can always "cook" the live rock and recure it, but my big concern would be whether or not this rock has been exposed to copper or other medications. In addition to possibly being exposed to copper The aptasia can be such a nuisance that it will literally drive you crazy. I would rather pay a few dollars more and have peace of mind Sometimes it is very true when they say that you pay for what you get. I buy live rock via local fish clubs. It works kind of like craigs list, but people are more reliable. MASNA is a good resource to find these clubs.
They tend to be set up like reef central, but on a smaller local scale.
