Janesville Police are janesville the community about an ongoing Craigslist scam for rentals that are already for sale in MLS. Police said the rental ads are posted on Craigslist with a made-up email for interested renters to use as a point of contact.
The suspects tell people that they're not in town or aren't available for a showing and urge the potential renters to go to the house to look around the residence and peek into craigslist.
Officer Chad Sullivan from the Janesville PD said that the suspects tell renters to send money if they're interested in the property and that they'll send keys once they receive the money. Police are warning community members not to send money to anyone for a rental agreement without meeting the landlord in person and looking through the property together.
