If it's someone you are in an established relationship with, then casual vs. Let's get dressed up and have a formal night on the town vs. If you are describing the nature of the relationship itself, then casual dating means non-exclusive dating, usually at not particularly frequent intervals.
May or may not include sexual contact, depending on the wishes of both parties, but you are free to date others and should assume the other person is doing the same. I've never really heard someone describe it as "formal dating" but generally if you get to the point where you are exclusive, refer to each other as boyfriend or girlfriend, have met the friends and maybe even the family, you'd get taken to a family wedding if one happened - formal the opposite of casual dating.

I agree with those who are saying the OP is overthinking it. You may dress more nicely for dating type of events than others, but don't think there is a any correlation between how formal the environment of the date is and how serious the relationship is.
