It is very short with only two different endings though different means to reach eitherbut it will give you a good impression of how VNs play like without bombarding you with too many choices. It is also probably my favorite VN overall.

Long live the queen seems to dating the VN version of Dark Souls. I played the first Bionic Heart once long ago and that was enjoyable. A few more suggestions I haven't seen mentioned, although they aren't on Steam Most are otome female protagonist and from US devs, but there are a few non-otome visual novels. Dev has promised Steam Keys to anyone who bought the game previous to being greenlit.
Steam keys japanese if game is greenlit. Absolutely amazing story, great art style, and the protagonist Kyle Hyde is one of the best written detectives I've seen in a videogame. Pretty sure you can still buy it on Amazon, though it may be a little pricey now. Too bad Cing went japanese. I'd love to have seen Kyle Hyde in more games.
Even though it's also otome female protagonistthe story is great. It's a fictional take on the final years of the Shinsengumi, read article the Meiji Restoration, so there's a lot of historical stuff going on in the game: politics, intrigue, assasinations, and cool ass samurai stuff - most of which is historically accurate. A lot of guys who've played the game enjoyed it, so it might be something to check out.
KS was my here, played for all the good endings and Emi's bad ending dating 2 back. Being free makes sims an easy choice to test if it is a genre you'll end up liking.
