They start 39a the suspected date of manufacture for this rifle. I do not yet have a copy of Brophy's book and would really appreciate knowing in what year it was manufactured and any other data that might be out there on this rifle.
S is located under the lever. Can anyone out there help me? I really appreciate it! Re: Manufacture date of Model 39 Post by chrifle » 39a Jan 07, am The model 39 was introduced inand did not carry a prefix. The S prefix likely was first used in the number, based on serial number ranges for the non and S prefixed rifles.
Important Information
The HS prefix was used beginning indating the introduction of the model 39A in Use only standard or target velocity ammunition in your model 39! You will crack the bolt with high speed ammunition the change in of the bolt allowed high speed ammunition to marlin used, hence the "HS" serial code designation. The known S range of serial codes was S - S at the time Brophy published his book. Yours sets a "new record" and likely was built in Numbers only which fits in with least numbers of years of manufacture by the Marlin Firearms Corporation.

S prefix; S as reported above. HS prefix; HS It's a chancey job and it makes a man watchfull Re: Manufacture date of Model 39 Post by johnsess » Fri Jan 13, am I recently purchased a Marlin marlin 39, serial with a star on the lower tang and a bullseye on the bottom of the stock.
Since the "HS" designation is not included, what is the fastest ammo safe to serial How fast is "high speed"?
