On February 14, loved up couples all over the county will be celebrating each other - but not everyone is as lucky in love, so we sent reporter Zasha Whiteway-Wilkinson out to see if speed dating was in any way to combat this eternal solitude. As I sat at home few weeks ago watching The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina on Netlflix and contemplating how I had yet again managed to get ghosted by a man 'who I thought was different', I thought "goodness, I'm going to be alone forever". I thought perhaps that the problem was the kind of men I go for.
I like them emotionally unavailable with a penchant for struggling to keep down a job. It's not that they're bad men, it's just that they're bad communicators, so as a young and impressionable woman I'm led to believe that the problem must be me. The thing is, I hate dating. I just want to skip that bit to the arguments over the washing up and the cuddles on the sofa in front of Always Sunny in Philadelphia, meeting new people, learning what they like and don't like?
No thanks. But at the end of the day, I keep getting stuck in the same situation dating matter how hard I try to dating 'those men' - so Speed decided that Click to see more needed to face my fear, do essentially what I feared the most - putting myself out there by going speed dating.
I always jump in two feet first when I get an idea in my head so when the thought of speed dating popped into my head I just couldn't shake it. Spending five minutes talking to someone I'd never met with no way to escape? What if no-one even comes and I'm just there by myself, the epitome of lonely? Worse, what if I knew someone?! Then they'd know that I couldn't find love speed a normal way - it's hard to catch eyes with someone when you spend most of your time staring at your phone or the floor!
But somehow my morbid curiosity got the better of me and I found myself making a quick Google search anyway. As I received confirmation of payment I noticed that the website had a 'dating tips' segment. Alas, no, it was more "don't dress like dating slut", "wash your face" types. Keep bling to a reasonable consider, cincinnati speed dating curious. Resist the temptation of changing your hairstyle before the date - it may make you feel self-conscious.
For make-up, use natural colours to complement your skin. Wear clean shoes, avoid trainers. Little or no dating. Clean hands and fingernails. A lovely smile and laughter go a long way. Give each other a chance to speak and ask open questions which will keep conversation flowing.
Eye contact is speed important. Showing good manners gets noticed. Skip forward a few weeks and hundreds of jokes about my impending anxiety-induced breakdown later - the night finally came. As I donned a simple blue dress with blue comfortable New Look heels basically what I'd worn to a wedding I'd attended also dateless in and some gold earrings. Sinking a Peroni to calm my nerves I jumped into a cab and across town to the bar where the night was being hosted.
As the cab rolled up I questioned why I'd sunk a beer for my anxiety when I hadn't drunk a drop of anything other than herbal tea or water for nearly three months. If I fell over now that'd be just my deserved luck. Walking in, I scanned the room half expecting it to be totally empty and be the final nail in the coffin of my search for a soulmate, alas, no, there were actually a few people littered around to my gentle surprise. As I went to the bar I noticed that in fact there was actually a substantial line of people queued up on the stairs to the upstairs function room, and when I spoke to the hostess there were in fact 26 people signed up for the event.
Could speed dating which had seemingly taken a back seat in a world of swiping left and right actually be making a comeback? On the theme of app dating, this was a common theme I was to talk to the men seated across from me - one of the main reasons they had chosen to sit through five minutes with supernatural dating site eclectic bunch of women was that it cut gloucester the faff of swiping, and talking for weeks before even if going on a date and finding out you don't really click in real life.
You are given a sheet of paper and the women must choose a table and the men are required to move around the tables, a faint vibe of men choosing what lump of meat they'd like to buy at the market, table to table. We got five minutes each to chat with our prospective partners before the timer went off and up and round they went again like an gloucester game of spin the bottle for 25 to year-olds.
After each date you're meant to write that person's name and cross off whether you'd like to see them again, I chose to wait to the end of all the dates to tick the box as "Gloucester" didn't want anyone to see my tragic self-marked test results.
A decision I'd later come to regret after two pints as I couldn't for the life of me match my names to men. Three or four dates in I thought to myself, "getting a bit tired now, this is a lot of talking". Click at this page a saving grace though, after date five we were allowed a bathroom break and to top up our drinks I got some snacks too as dating that chit chat was making me hungry. I chose not to match with any of my dates as you get the option to 'change your mind' when dating hostess email's you across your results.
network, make friends and open the door to love...
As the dates rounded off we thanked the hostess for a click to see more evening and I found myself in a small circle of other women that had embarked on the quest for 'love'. Now this was the kind of social interaction I could get on board with, laughing about my constant romantic failures with people who had not heard my dry self depreciating stories tens of times before.
Long story short. These fabulous women and I ended up speed to another click for a beverage speed making starting a group chat so we could stay in touch. On my newly founded 'All the single ladies' Whatsapp group the following morning with my new 'speed dating friends' and slightly fragile headache, we found the anticipation gloucester waiting for the results more info filled with an almost teenage giddiness.

At around 5pm when I got the email I'd been waiting for I saw that five of the 11 dates I went on said that they would want to go on a date again only five? I wasn't really feeling it so thanked my host and asked her to pass my potential suitors the best.

So all in all, with my new friends, a chance to do something different and opportunity to flex my competitiveness side it was a successful night and I'd definitely go again. Alas this night was not written in the stars for me to find the Speed to my Charlie this is an Always Sunny in Philadelphia referencebut maybe I found the Rick to my Morty through dating new girlfriends who were also looking for that senior dating bit of something more in their lives.
